What is the maximum number of users this will support?

Hi there. I absolutely love the kPlaylist software; installing it was a breeze! However, I have several questions about using it because I have some concerns about its performance and impact on the rest of my site under heavier use by users. It's not an issue when 2 or 3 people are streaming stuff, but how about 10 or 20?

Questions

Under what circumstances does this software have a large impact on site performance?

Can anyone tell me the maximum (mean) number of simultaneous users that can access streaming files using this script?

Is there a rate limiting mechanism in the software to prevent crashes and slow down of other parts of the site?

I currently only have an Admin user and that user has no bandwidth limitations. Do I need to set this to a particular number, and by doing so, will limiting bandwidth limit the speed of anonymous connections.

I'm asking these questions because I've noticed some stuttering/crashing going on after I installed this on my provider's server (a fast 1 CPU system, though I am not privy to most of the details about the system). I don't think this is related to the streaming software, but do have my suspicions as I haven't seen this before.

I have a low number of users online at my site simultaneously(8-10; it is relatively new), but want to start offering more streaming audio content. The site has been growing about 10% per day and is up to 250 unique users a day so far. It's been a lot of fun, as this is my first website.

I am concerned about what may happen in a couple of months if a couple hundred more people start visiting. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Cheers,
Slick! :D

The heaviest impact on the system would be file read and write. As in, downloading or uploading. I don't know how many users you can have online simultaneously, as you don't specify what kind of bandwidth you have on your server and what's the most common bitrate of your music. But in general, it's pretty certain that all the available bandwidth will be the first problem you would experience. To limit this, you can enable the inbuilt shaper (streaming engine.).

If you have 10 users and each streams 160 kbit rate, you are using 1600 kbit outgoing bandwidth. (195 kbyte/sec or 1.6 mbit)
