Having problems installing or using kPlaylist.

WMP Not Playing M3U files

Postby rubal » Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:17 am

I get this error message when Windows Media Player tries to stream:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

This happens on any machine WMP is the default for m3u files; however, Winamp has no problems. And as of last week it was working fine on WMP without issues. I'm currently running version 1.7.426 (have tried 1.8.502 and 1.8.503). I using WAMP Server 2. And lastly, I'm a n00b.

BTW... great software... and thanks in advance for the help.

What happens if you change your "playlist" in settings to "asx"?

I get the same error with asx as well. Additionally, asx doesn't work with Winamp either (but I think that's by design). When I move it back to m3u Winamp streams fine. Thanks.

Try using another M3U... in other words, not from your server.
Try one made local on the box that refers to files local on the box.
Also, try using any M3U from online that is not from your server... the issue could be with your site and not necessarily WMP.

Let me know what you find out.

Local m3u files work fine on WMP. By the way this is on 5+ computers that this happens so it is an issue with my server and kPlaylist. I also have Jinzora on the same server and it streams like a champ to WMP. I did do an update of PHP from 2.5.5 to 2.5.8 on Wampserver 2 sometime last week.

Hmm... did you perhaps change permissions on the media directory?
Also, take a look in the DB:
Does this query point to the correct base directory?
(SELECT `value` FROM `tbl_config` WHERE `key` = 'base_dir';)
Does the account controlling apache/php have access to that directory?

Hi,

Im still having the same problem: on all the systems I ve tried WMP (9, 10 or 11) doesnt play nice with Kplay. I have to use the FV or install Winamp. Winamp works fine when using .m3u. Tried all the things suggested in this thread.

Does anybody have a new idea? Im running the bundled version of Kplay on a Synology NAS. Like I said: streaming to Winamp works. Using the Flashplayer works. Using WMP fails.

Ive got a new job that doesnt let me install Winamp and blocks Flash so it is becoming much more urgent :-). Not listening to music when working is NOT an option :-).
